Southernisms Part 2
A co-worker relayed a story confirming the wisdom of Dr Aderhold's observations regarding the tendency of Southerns to say "ink pen" rather than just plain old "pen" like the rest of the English speaking world.
She was recently at the bank completing a transaction. The teller asked if she had a pin. She couldn't figure out why the bank teller would be asking her for her account's pin number. After several phrases of confused miscommunications were exchanged, my co-worker realized that she being asked if she had a "pen," not her bank "pin." This could have all been avoided had the teller used "ink pen" in keeping with the local customs.
